MAISON ERRECALDIA, a traditional French Basque house dating from 1673, offers spacious and sunny rooms, all with en-suite facilities, spectacular views and large, comfortable double or twin beds. A generous continental breakfast of fresh and local ingredients is provided. The GR10 trans-Pyrenean trail and the GR65 pilgrim route, the Camino, pass right by our front door.
Guests have their own entrance and key giving access 24 hours a day. Free, fast WiFi internet is available throughout the house. Baggage transport and taxi services can be arranged.
Situated in the beautiful foothills of the Pyrenees, rising to 4000 feet, we are ideally placed for touring, walking and cycling. Just a few minute's walk down the medieval street of Rue de la Citadelle brings you to the bustling town centre of Saint Jean Pied de Port. With shops, bars and restaurants, this Pyrenean market town has plenty to offer.
Nestling below the 17th century Vauban Citadelle, with views over the river valley to the surrounding hills and mountains, the house lies on the ancient Chemin St Jacques in a quiet location just beyond the Porte St Jacques and the town walls.
For those travelling from afar to walk the long distance routes, our comfortable house offers an ideal opportunity to rest a day or two after travelling, before tackling the climb out to Roncesvalles, Saint Etienne de Baigorry or Iraty.
Where practical, we use organic food or local artisanal products which are essentially organic. Natural or hypo-allergenic cleaning products are used throughout the house to protect the environment and health.
We speak English or French, and can translate emails in other languages.
As we walked into St Jean we were delighted to see the sign for this charming chambre d'hote. Run by an English couple, the rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. The couple are very efficient and friendly with lots of helpful advice. Breakfast was delicious, lots of local produce and beautifully presented. A lovely place to finish a long walking holiday
Touring the French / Spanish border, we had a nice welcome from Tim, and at breakfast he helped us planning our day driving over the mountain passes of the Pyrenees. It was the best day of the trip in the end, because we followed all the tiny roads we wouldn't have found without help! Thank you, Tim and Lisa
I was greeted by Louisa , she was delightful. I felt welcome as she carried my pack to my room and showed me around. I inquired about dinner and took her up on it. I was so pleased as I had a true French experience. Breakfast was special as the food was a 10. I would recommend this B&B to all. Fairly priced and out of the mainstream.
We highly recommend Tim & Louise' place. It's close to everything in town, yet has the comfort and quiet of a country home. We arrived the last evening of a festival and we're delighted by fireworks at our window. It was a perfect way to start.
Great location in a wonderful village. Tim and Louise made my stay exceptional! The room was very clean and comfortable. A truly special place.
Thank you for being so kind! You two were perfect hosts!
Tim and Louise made me feel at home from the first moment. Just the right amount of welcome.
Tim and Louise's b&b was warm, clean and comfortable and close to everything in St Jean. A lovely breakfast too. Would highly recommend staying here. Thanks Tim and Louise.
This B&B is even more beautiful and special - than any pictures convey. Tim was a gracious and helpful host. He made for us a delicious French breakfast with all local foods. It was just what I needed to help rejuvenate and motivate me on my way forward to the Camino de Santiago. I wish I could describe the views from my balcony. You'll have to see for yourself!!
I loved staying at this place! it is really cozy and nice! the breakfast was delicious.
